Whether your business has 1 employee or 10,000, without people, the business cannot exist.  There will be no product or services, which means no customers to buy anything, which means no profits to continue the business.  

You need happy employees.

Your 'product' is not just the item or services your customers buy.  Your product is every part of the customer experience.  How easy you make it to buy, the quality of the service received before, during and after buying - that is the product of your business.  

You need happy customers.

Profits are the fuel that keeps your business running.  It doesn't matter if you are a non-profit or volunteer organization.  If you spend more money than you bring in, your company will cease to exist.  

You need to be profitable.

The 3Ps of Management

Businesses need a plan.  A vision, a mission, short-term, mid-term, long-term goals, targets, objectives.  You can use detailed OKRs (Objectives & Key Results) or a simple piece of paper, but, you need a plan to create a strategy for success. 

Your business processes create the employee and customer experience. Which tools and tech you use, how effective and efficient your processes are, and how well documented they are, determines the success of your business. 

It doesn't matter if you call them metrics or KPIs, if you aren't consistently measuring the numbers related to your People, Product and Profits, you won't know what Processes to fix nor if you are on track to achieve your Plan.
